VOCABULARY / WORDS IN CONTEXT
Recognising a word is a start. Choosing the right word for a particular sentence takes practice. These activities help you notice meaning, grammar and the expressions words belong to.

The Beatles already had a drummer before Ringo Starr became part of the band in August 1962. He took Pete Best's place behind the drums. Soon he was making music with John, Paul, and George, and the four men became the group shown in so many famous photographs.
Which word fits the sentence?
Joined means became a member: “She joined a band.” Entered often means went into a place: “She entered the music room.” Ringo became part of the group; the sentence does not describe entering a place, so joined fits here.

Choose FCE for B2 First preparation or CAE for C1 Advanced. Use Vocabulary to practise words in context and Grammar to identify topics you want to work on. The free demo lets you try all four before joining.

No. The tests cover Parts 1–4 of Reading & Use of English. They do not cover the other reading parts, listening, writing or speaking. These are independent practice materials, not official Cambridge papers. Practice scores are not official exam scores.
Exam answers are checked against the app’s answer keys. FCE transformations use full-credit marking; CAE transformations also offer approximate classroom partial credit. A valid answer missing from a key may need a teacher’s review. In Grammar, you earn a point only by selecting every correct option and no extra options.
Incorrect, skipped and unsure answers go onto your study list. A correct answer still earns a point when you mark “I’m not sure”, and it stays on the list for review. Retrying clears the flagged answers so you can practise them again; confident correct answers remain.
Exam and grammar attempts save in your browser on the device you use. They do not sync across devices or accounts. Clearing browser data or using private browsing may remove them. Demo attempts are separate from full-app attempts. Vocabulary question-by-question attempts are not saved between sessions.
